Paraguay fans have caused a stir after burning a mannequin of Kylian Mbappe during a festival following their World Cup exit.
France’s 1-0 win against Paraguay made headlines for controversial reasons as the South American nation provided plenty of reckless challenges, targeting Mbappe in particular.
In the end, Les Bleus secured the win thanks to a goal from their talisman, but the sentiments aren’t quite the same in Paraguay.

Why Paraguay fans burned a mannequin of Kylian Mbappe
A video posted by Steven Pegelow on Instagram shared a video of a number of Paraguay fans who were celebrating at the San Juara festival on 4 July, a traditional celebration in the country.
In the footage a man in a Paraguay shirt lit a mannequin with Mbappe’s name written across his chest.
This tradition is known as a Judas Kai, where an ‘unpopular’ person is burned during the festival.
Over in France, 15,000 people signed a petition apologising to Mbappe and his stock is continuing to increase across the globe, except for Asuncion and the rest of the nation.
Argentina burned Kylian Mbappe after World Cup celebrations in 2022
Mbappe has been condemned to a similar fate back in 2022 after France’s epic World Cup final against Argentina.
The rivalry between the two countries continued long after the final, with Argentina supporters burning a coffin with Mbappe’s face on during their celebrations in Buenos Aires.
This was followed up alongside Emiliano Martinez taunting the forward, as well as others.
