Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse wants to stay at St. James’ Park.
Papiss Cisse has told The Sun that he will stay at Newcastle United until the end of his contract.
Cisse has a year remaining on his current deal at St. James’ Park, and he says that he wants to help Newcastle get promoted back to the Premier League.
The experienced Senegalese international has been linked with a move to China, but he insists that he wants to remain with the Tynesiders.
“We’re not a small team, I have a year left on my contract and I will stay put,” Cisse said.
“Newcastle are a big club and can rise again overnight. All the players know this and we will take the club back up.”
Cisse has played a rotational role at Newcastle this past season, with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez also competing for places up-front.
It seems unlikely that Newcastle will be able to keep all of their striking talent at the club this summer, though, without Premier League football.
Rafael Benitez has been promised that he will not be under pressure to sell any player he does not want to, but Newcastle will need to find a way of cutting costs.
Newcastle have also reportedly been looking at strikers, as they bid to strengthen their squad.
The Magpies have been linked with the likes of Ross McCormack and Lee Tomlin recently.
