‘Panic buy’: TalkSport pundit sends Levy warning about transfer rumour & makes Kane claim

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested on talkSPORT (16/09/20 at 8:10 am) that Tottenham’s decision to push for Gareth Bale’s signature is a ‘panic buy’.

The former Aston Villa striker also suggested that Harry Kane will be looking at the wages Spurs will be paying for Bale and telling Daniel Levy that ‘you can pay that money’ to someone like him.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Bale is set to be the highest-paid player in Tottenham’s history on £250k-a-week, as he set to jump over the likes of Kane and Tanguy Ndombele.

Agbonlahor, who played against Bale during his days at Aston Villa, didn’t seem too sure about Spurs re-signing the Welsh winger.

“What Gareth Bale is going to come to Spurs?” Agbonlahor questioned on talkSPORT. “Is it the Gareth Bale that left them? Is it the Gareth Bale I played against, which is one of the best players I played against.

“Or is it a bit of a panic buy? Bringing in Bale because we lost our first game. Jose needs a big name in. Yes, he’s a great player, but I don’t know which Gareth Bale is going to come. I would get a central midfielder in before I get Gareth Bale because Winks and Sissoko are not going to take Spurs into the top-four.

“If Harry Kane, for instance, sees Daniel Levy, ‘okay, so you can pay £300-400k a week [to Bale]’. What would that say to Harry Kane? Who is maybe on half of that, or a bit less maybe. He will be thinking ‘you can pay that money’.”

Regardless of what Tottenham are or aren’t paying Bale, the Spurs fans will be happy that those in the boardroom are finally pushing the boat out financially.

Levy wouldn’t normally make these types of moves, but perhaps even he can see the troubles Spurs were potentially heading towards this season.

Either way, it’s a much-needed lift for those in North London and they can now start to dream of lifting some silverware this season.
