Paul Merson has stated that Youri Tielemans is not the answer for Liverpool, claiming that he would be a ‘panic buy’.

The Reds are officially in the market for a new midfielder after Jurgen Klopp conceded on Friday that he desperately needed to sign another body for that area of the pitch, due to an injury crisis.

Earlier this week, Stephen Warnock touted Liverpool to sign the Leicester City star in a public opinion which received a bit of traction across the English media.

However, Merson has told The Daily Star that the Belgium international is not the answer.

He told The Daily Star: “One name that keeps cropping up is Youri Tielemans, who was dropped to the bench by Leicester last weekend as he continues to angle for a move.

“I’m just not sure if he suits Liverpool. I might be wrong but if they do go for him, it’s a panic buy. There hasn’t been any interest in him before this mini-crisis.”

It’s undeniable that Liverpool are linked to much more exciting names.

On Saturday, The Times reported that Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona was now a target at Anfield following his botched transfer to Manchester United, while Ruben Neves is reportedly on the radar again, too.

Regardless who it is, it’s definitely important someone comes in.

Yes, Liverpool might’ve hammered Bournemouth 9-0 this afternoon, but every big team has run over Scott Parker’s side this season.

It was an excellent victory but Klopp won’t be fooled into thinking that such an emphatic win means everything is fine in midfield, because it isn’t.
