Frank de Boer could be sacked as Crystal Palace manager before they return to Premier League action against Burnley this weekend, reports the Independent, just three games into his time at the club.

It has been a difficult start to life at Selhurst Park for the Dutchman after three defeats – two coming at home against Huddersfield Town and Swansea City – and no goals scored.

It’s believed a defeat at Burnley on Sunday (September 10) will cost De Boer his job, but he may not even last that long as the Eagles hierarchy begin looking for his replacement.

The 47-year-old has been widely criticised for trying to impose a 3-4-3 system on the Palace players that incorporates a possession-based passing style, which they are just not used to or prepared to play.

And it is true that De Boer needs to adapt. With his job on the line this not a long-term project but a need for immediate results – at least to buy him the time he needs to implement his own philosophy.

Suggestions are this could be seen at Turf Moor, with the 4-3-3 formation from the second half during the 2-0 loss to the Swans in their last outing set to be used from the start.

De Boer is showing he is willing to be pragmatic in adversity and his bosses at the South London club at least need to give him the chance to try and turn things around by doing that. Otherwise, why did they even hire him in the first place?
