Andros Townsend told talkSPORT that he is ‘surprised’ Mohamed Salah has already surpassed his goalscoring tally from last season.
The 28-year-old speedster has struck 24 goals in all competitions this season – one better than he managed during the entire 2019/20 campaign.
Added with that, he is two goals off matching the 19 goals he struck during Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign.
Townsend has come up against Salah on a number of occasions during his career, including witnessing that devastating 7-0 defeat earlier on in the season, as he shared what he’s like to play against.
“He’s just devastatingly quick,” said Townsend. “He’s just incredible. His goal against Leipzig summed him up. Always ready to capitalise on any mistake.
“He’s so sharp. Once he gets a split-second jump on you then there’s no getting back.
“I am surprised that he’s actually scored more than he has last season because you don’t see that he has had that same effect.
“But it shows that he’s changed his game by being more effective in the final third.”

Even though Liverpool hit a drought recently, it still hasn’t affected Salah’s ability to find the back of the net and be the leading goalscorer in the division.
Last season, it was Jamie Vardy who walked away with the Golden Boot, but with Salah currently holding a three-goal lead on the next man – Bruno Fernandes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if that award makes it way from the Midlands to Merseyside when the final ball is kicked at the end of the campaign.
