Crystal Palace are holding out for around £23.1 million for Alexander Sorloth amid interest from RB Leipzig, according to a prominent former Norwegian footballer.

Sorloth has been strongly linked with a move to Leipzig, after starring on loan from Palace to Trabzonspor last season.

The Norway international scored 33 goals and assisted 11 in 49 games for the Turkish side, with whom he is due to stay for another campaign.

But Leizpig have offered €17m (around £15.1m), plus a further €3m (£2.7m) in add-ons, to end that deal nine months early, claims Jan Age Fjortoft.

Fjortoft, who played Premier League football for Swindon Town, Middlesbrough and Barnsley and worked as a pundit on the German game, tweeted the following on Tuesday morning:

Sorloth has scored just one goal and assisted as many in 20 games for Crystal Palace, whom he cost a reported fee of £8.1m two-and-a-half-years ago.

And with Palace already being tipped to strengthen their striking options – which currently comprise Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham – the Eagles may be wise to cash in while they can on the 24-year-old.

A move to Leipzig, the Champions League semi-finalists who will compete again among Europe’s elite clubs next season, would likely appeal to Sorloth.
