Liverpool fans have been left gutted after claims Joel Matip could miss out on playing against Manchester United.

The Daily Mirror suggests that Matip looks likely to miss the contest at the weekend, which is Liverpool’s biggest game of the season so far.

United actually overtook Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table last night.

And there are big concerns forming at Anfield that they could struggle on Sunday without Matip in their backline.

Liverpool supporters’ worries are understandable, given their lack of other options in the position.

Liverpool are without a number of key defensive players right now, and Jurgen Klopp now faces a real dilemma over who to play at the back.

If Matip does miss out Liverpool could move Jordan Henderson back into central defence, but he doesn’t look entirely comfortable in the position.

Klopp’s other option is to place Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips into his starting line-up, but the pair are both very inexperienced, and it would be a risk to put either of the youngsters into such a pressurised environment.
