Could he quit Sheffield United for Sunderland this summer?
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder
Chris Wilder is the shock favourite to replace David Moyes at Sunderland, according to Paddy Power.
The Sheffield United boss is 5/1 to take the Stadium of Light job, slightly ahead of Garry Monk and Paul Lambert (Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively).
But could the 49-year-old really leave Bramall Lane this summer? Let’s see:
Why would Sunderland want him?
Wilder earned promotions with both Sheffield United (League One to Championship) and Northampton Town (League Two to League One) in the past two campaigns, amassing 199 points in doing so. His knowledge of the two divisions directly below the second tier could lead the Mackems to a bargain or two this summer.
Why would he want Sunderland?
Aston Villa aside, it’s probably the biggest club in the Championship (certainly in terms of trophies won, before Leeds fans chirp up). It has Premier League facilities, a Premier League fanbase and Premier League players (at least on paper), many of whom could have done with a Wilder-esque boot up the bum this past campaign.

Any downsides?
From a Sunderland perspective, Wilder’s appointment would be something of a risk, with the Yorkshireman having never before managed above the third tier. For him, a boyhood Blades fan, the question is: Why would he want to leave Bramall Lane right now?
