The defender scored two goals in the EFL Cup win over Queens Park Rangers this week.
Sunderland star Paddy McNair has asked the club’s fans to remain patient with him as he settles at the club, during an interview with the club’s official website.
The defender joined the Black Cats in the summer transfer window in a move from Manchester United.
The move saw him reuniting with his former manager David Moyes, with the duo having worked together during the Scots time in charge at Old Trafford.
He endured something of a nightmare start to life with the Black Cats as an own goal on his debut handed Manchester City a win on the opening day of the season.
However this week saw him scoring at the right end of the pitch as he bagged both goals in the win over Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup.
They obviously delighted the watching Sunderland fans but McNair has urged them to remain patient with him.
“It was difficult during the first weeks after I came from Manchester United where I hadn’t had a pre-season,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ve just been trying to get going and it was also a big change. I want the fans to be patient with me but hopefully I’ve shown what I can give the team.”
Sunderland will now be hoping that McNair can build on this performance and become a star in the side.
They need to start picking up wins in the Premier League, having failed to do so in their first five games so far and currently finding themselves in the bottom three.
Sunderland return to action in the league this weekend as they take on Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light.
