Paddy McCourt has defended Celtic attacker Scott Sinclair on Twitter after the forward came under constant criticism before turning his form around and going on an impressive goalscoring run.

Sinclair, 29, had managed just five goals in 29 games so far this season and was being heavily scrutinised by Celtic fans, as they could not understand where the Sinclair of 2016-17 had vanished to.

Now, that confident, goalscoring Sinclair has returned – scoring eight goals in his last seven games and taking his tally to 13 in 36 appearances. He continued his excellent run with a well-placed header against Hamilton on Saturday.

Former Celtic winger McCourt took to Twitter to both applaud and defend Sinclair, criticising Celtic fans for their treatment of the ex-Manchester City, Chelsea and Swansea City ace.

Joining the club from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016 as one of Brendan Rodgers’ first signings, Sinclair has scored 56 goals in 141 games for Celtic – while creating another 34 assists.

He has helped Celtic win two trebles as well as the League Cup this season, while holding aloft the Player of the Season award in his first campaign. Now, he is beginning to show that kind of form once again.

Sinclair is expected to start on Wednesday night as the Hoops play host to Tommy Wright’s St. Johnstone at Parkhead, as they look to stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership – in what is their game in hand.
