Pablo Zabaleta has told West Ham United’s official website that people ask him whether he has taken a leadership role since joining the Irons.
The two-time Premier League champion joined West Ham in the summer after his contract with Manchester City expired.
At 32, the Argentina international is among the oldest and most experienced players in the Hammers’ best XI.
And Zabaleta reveals that he can certainly add a sense of leadership to the team when the moments call for it.
“People have asked me if I have taken on a leadership role since joining West Ham,” he told the club’s official website.
“My answer is that, with all my experience in football, I can bring it to the dressing room and help the players with anything that they need.
“In football, you need people in the dressing room who will shout sometimes and react to something, when things aren’t going well.”
Zabaleta, who turns 33 in January, has been an ever-present figure in Slaven Bilic’s defence and he’ll be called on again tonight when Brighton visit the London Stadium.
It hasn’t been the rip-roaring start to the Premier League season that fans would’ve hoped for after a decent transfer window, with Bilic’s side 15th in the table, but there have been signs of improvement in recent weeks and victory tonight would enhance the feel-good factor.
