Ian Wright has said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:46pm, August 22, 2021) that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea feasted on Arsenal defender Pablo Mari today.

The Arsenal legend made the comment while analysing the Gunners’ performance in their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium today.

Chelsea eased past Arsenal 2-0 in the London derby in the Premier League.

Wright said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (10:46pm, August 22, 2021): “What happened to Pablo Mari, he was feasted on today.”

How did Pablo Mari play?

Mari had a very tough game against Chelsea, especially against striker Romelu Lukaku.

The 27-year-old central defender was bullied by the former Manchester United striker, who found it very easy against the Spaniard and scored for the Blues.

The defender – who cost Arsenal £6.8 million in transfer fee, according to Football.London – looked nervous and lacked leadership at the back

Mari played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 90.6%, took 49 touches, and made four tackles, two interceptions and three clearances.

The Spaniard will have to do much better in the coming weeks if he is keep his place in the team when everyone is available.

Arsenal will also have to step up their game if they are to do better than last season and at least compete for the European places in the Premier League table.
