The wife of Pablo Hernandez has posted on Twitter after Leeds United suffered a defeat to Aston Villa at Elland Road, a heavy 3-0 defeat. Jesse Marsch’s side were second best throughout, as Villa eased to victory.
The pressure on new manager Marsch is enormous after suffering a 1-0 loss to Leicester in his first game as manager – but many saw the clash against Aston Villa, at Elland Road, as a chance to pick up his first points as boss.
But it could not have gone worse for the American gaffer, as Philippe Coutinho’s deflected effort off of Luke Ayling saw Villa go 1-0 up in the first half. Illan Meslier made a number of saves to keep Villa at bay.
A second came when Matty Cash had all the time in the world to cut inside and lash a left-footed effort under Meslier, before a gorgeous finish from Calum Chambers put Villa 3-0 up – after good work from Tyrone Mings.
A dismal result from Leeds, with the only positive being the introduction of England international Patrick Bamford from the bench. The wife of Hernandez, a modern Leeds legend, reacted to the result on Twitter.
Hernandez wife reacts: Leeds plummeting towards Championship
The last four defeats have been twinged with the realisation that it was always going to be difficult to pick up points. Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and then Leicester away was a near-impossible run for Leeds.
But a home clash against Villa, a side they drew 3-3 with away from home, promised to give Leeds a proper chance of a result – in Marsch’s first home game. The defeat, the manner of it – relegation is a real Leeds possibility.
