Pablo Hernandez celebrates scoring the second goal for Leeds United
Pablo Hernandez produced an inspired performance as Leeds United won comfortably against Bristol City.
The Spaniard scored one goal and assisted another for Chris Wood as the Whites won 2-1 with both goals coming in the first half.
On a night where play-off rivals Reading and Huddersfield had to scrap for wins, three points for Leeds was never in doubt last night, with City scoring their goal late in injury time as a mere consolation.
They were helped by Bristol City’s top goalscorer Tammy Abraham going off with an injury after just half an hour.
Hernandez ran the show for Leeds, creating four goalscoring chances, twice as many as any of his teammates.
He touched the ball 86 times, the most of any Leeds player, and completed 87 per cent of his passes, an especially high number given his role requires an element of risk taking, often trying to thread the perfect ball through to a loan striker.
The Spaniard had two efforts on target from four attempts, leading his side to a seventh home win from their last eight matches.
The 31-year-old now has four goals and seven assists for Leeds this season, with four of those assists coming after he signed a permanent contract in early January,
It was his excellent form and pedigree which helped make the decision to sell Alex Mowatt so simple, and if the the former Valencia man reproduces more performances like last night, then Leeds will continue to look good to land a play-off spot.
