Leeds United star Pablo Hernandez has stated to Marca what club chairman Andrea Radrizzani said about promotion when he took over.

As reported on BBC Sport, Radrizzani purchased a 50% stake in Leeds in January 2017 before completely taking over in the summer of 2017.

Hernandez, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has revealed Italian businessman Radrizzan’s plan when he took over Leeds.

The former Valencia and Swansea City star has also underlined a key factor hindering Leeds in their quest to win promotion.

The 33-year-old has pointed out that teams getting relegated from the Premier League get parachute payment which they can invest in the squad.

Hernandez told Marca: “A year-and-a-half ago, a new owner arrived and said he wanted to go up as soon as possible, but it is not easy because the teams that come down from the Premier League receive a lot of money and have very competitive squads.”

Achieving promotion

Leeds narrowly missed out on the Championship playoffs during the 2016-17 campaign, while last season, the Whites collapsed in the second half after a brilliant opening few months.

The Whites are aiming to challenge for the playoffs again this campaign, and the West Yorkshire outfit have made a strong start.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won their opening league fixtures, and the dream of winning promotion is certainly alive.

It is going to be a long and hard season for Leeds who are bound to go through a bad spell at some point, but there is a distinct possibility that Radrizzani will see the club in the Premier League in 2018-19.
