Leeds United attacker Pablo Hernandez has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he prefers to play in the number 10 role.

Hernandez has been playing well for Leeds in recent games and is starting to establish himself as a key player for the team.

The former Swansea City star joined the West Yorkshire outfit from Al-Arabi in the summer transfer window on loan until January.

The 31-year-old Spaniard is a versatile attacking player who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder.

Leeds head coach Garry Monk has also deployed Hernandez as a central midfielder this season, but the former Valencia star has made it clear that he prefers to play as a number 10.

“I can play on the wings, but for me this is the best position in which I can help the team to win matches,” Hernandez told The Yorkshire Evening Post regarding playing as a number 10.

“In this position I’m more free and I can take the ball between the lines. In the last two games the team altogether have worked nicely.”

Hernandez has scored one goal and created 15 chances in five Championship appearances for Leeds so far this season.

The Whites are 15th in the league table at the moment with 10 points from eight matches. Leeds have won their last two Championship matches, and there are positive signs.

The West Yorkshire outfit will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road in the third round of the EFL Cup.
