Pablo Hernandez comments on Leeds teammate Pawel Cibicki’s recent form

Pablo Hernandez now seems to be competing with Pawel Cibicki for a place in the Leeds United side.

Pablo Hernandez has told Radio Yorkshire that he has been impressed by Pawel Cibicki since he came back into the Leeds side recently, and insisted that the Whites will benefit from the amount of depth that they currently boast.

Cibicki had been something of a forgotten man for Thomas Christiansen’s men heading into December, with just a couple of Carabao Cup appearances to speak of before this month.

However, he made the most of a chance he received when Caleb Ekuban had to be taken off during Leeds’ recent trip to QPR, contributing an assist in the 3-1 win. And he marked his first Championship start at the weekend by providing another assist, this time for the game’s only goal in the 1-0 win over Norwich.

Hernandez had not been fit for the trip to Loftus Road and was kept on the bench for the game against the Canaries after Cibicki’s display in the capital. And while the Spaniard would perhaps have every right to be frustrated given how well he was playing before he sustained his injury, he insisted that his teammate had made the most of his chance and suggested that Cibicki’s performances are an indication of the quality within the squad.

“I came back in the last week from a hamstring injury, and yes, Pawel played 60-70 minutes in the QPR game. He played good. The last game, he played good,” he told Radio Yorkshire.

“I think it’s important. Some players have not had a lot of minutes this season, but when they go on the pitch, they play good and I think it’s positive for the team. Now we have a lot of games and we need all the squad, all the players ready.”

There is no question that Leeds will be in with a much better chance of competing for the play-off places if they have players coming from the bench and sidelines who can make as impressive an impact as Cibicki has done in the last two games.

Leeds will be hoping to move themselves into the top six in the Championship when they face Hull City at Elland Road on Saturday.
