Leeds United have the talented Spaniard initially on loan this season.
New Leeds United signing Pablo Hernandez has been speaking to Radio Yorkshire about his intentions for this season, including helping the club’s young players.
The Whites have some of the best young talent in the Championship and while there have been recent blows – the departures of Sam Byram in January and Lewis Cook earlier this summer – there are still plenty of positives.
“I’m excited to be here,” the Spaniard told Radio Yorkshire. “I want to help the youngsters bring success. I’m ready to play.”
His first outing should be this weekend when Leeds take on Queens Park Rangers in their opening game of the new Championship campaign.
Big things are expected of Hernandez, who has initially arrived on a six-month loan with the option to make things permanent in 2017, and alongside his former Swansea City manager Garry Monk he will be hoping to replicate his best form.
He knows Monk well, and explained that the boss is not afraid to turn a little nasty if it is for the good of the team.
“I’m pleased to be working with Garry once again,” Hernandez added. “He does have an angry streak at times.”
Monk has made seven signings so far this summer and all are expected to have a big impact at Leeds in the coming months.
Hernandez could be the pick of the bunch, but his influence could also have a positive impact on those aiming to follow in his footsteps and reach the Premier League after too long away.
