Instead of moving for Arsenal star, Manchester United should look at Everton ace.

Manchester United are considering a move to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season, The Independent report.

Ozil worked with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho successfully at Real Madrid and the Red Devils boss is a big admirer of his talents

However Ozil, 28, has had an inconsistent four years at Arsenal, and they may want to consider signing another Premier League star in a bargain move instead.

Everton star Ross Barkley is keen to move on, and his contract expires next June too.

The England international is five years younger than Ozil, and unlike the German, has no issue mixing it when Premier League games get physical.

Barkley is not just brawn and no brains though. Last season he created 84 goalscoring chances, more than David Silva, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Phillippe Coutinho and Cesc Fabregas.

While he created 16 fewer chances than Mesut Ozil, it must be remembered that Barkley is not only younger – but he has an established connection with Manchester United new boy Romelu Lukaku.

Barkley already knows Lukaku’s game and vice versa, and the pair would surely relish playing together again at Old Trafford.

On a free transfer or even at a knock down price in January, Barkely would be a smart addition.

He may not be the finished player, but Mesut Ozil is not either at 28. Barkley has more chance of putting that right.
