Liverpool central defender Ozan Kabak has raved about his teammate Virgil van Dijk in The Times.

Kabak, who joined Liverpool on loan from Schalke in the January transfer window, has outlined the help that Van Dijk has been giving him behind the scenes.

The 21-year-old is pleased to get the help from the Netherlands international central defender, who has been out injured since October 2020.

Kabak told The Times about Van Dijk: “He helped a lot. He has been great with me, he always spoke with me, he gave me some advice on how to play the game, how to play in Liverpool. He is a fantastic guy. I am very happy and glad to have met with him. He has always been my idol.

“Of course I am a young player, I could do some things better, but I have a long way to go in my career and I can be a better player. Virgil, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez – they are very good centre backs and if I train with them and a manager like Jürgen Klopp, I can be better.”

It is really great of Van Dijk to help out Kabak.

The 21-year-old central defender is very young, and his start to life at Liverpool was far from great.

However, the Turkey international has been good since then when he has played, but injuries have affected him as well.

The youngster has made nine appearances in the Premier League and played four times in the Champions League for Liverpool this season.

The Times have claimed that Liverpool need to pay £18 million to Schalke to make the youngster’s loan deal permanent.

Given that Kabak is only 21 and can – and will – get better, it would make sense for Liverpool to get the deal wrapped up.

Working with the likes of Van Dijk and Joel Matip and being managed by Jurgen Klopp will only help Kabak get better and enable him to add more facets to his game.
