Oxlade-Chamberlain lauds Tottenham striker Harry Kane’s World Cup leadership

The Tottenham Hotspur man has five goals in two games in Russia, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been impressed with the striker’s captaincy.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham, England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane for the role he is playing with England at the World Cup.

Kane is flying in Russia, having scored five goals already at the tournament against Tunisia and Panama, and injured Liverpool star Oxlade-Chamberlain has commended Kane’s ability to lead through his football.

He told Durham: “We all know how capable he is of scoring, but to take it to the World Cup is what all top goal-scorers try to do. He’s on a great run of form at the moment and long may that continue in this tournament.

“He’s been brilliant leading the boys, not just vocally, but with his performances, which is massive.”

Cynics have tried to belittle the achievements of Kane and England so far at the World Cup, with Belgium on Thursday undoubtedly the truest test to come, but the Three Lions have looked impressive so far with the Tottenham forward bearing the captain’s armband.

So far Kane is justifying his selection following his stunning rise to become one of the world’s top strikers, after Gareth Southgate made the decision based on him being a ‘meticulous professional’ for Spurs and an individual who possesses ‘outstanding leadership qualities’, as quoted by the Mail.

Kane, who has 140 goals in 213 appearances for Tottenham, will be eyeing more joy against Belgium in the final group game in Kaliningrad, with the Red Devils expected to make changes for the game.
