Halfway through his first season at Liverpool, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will certainly feel that there have been more positives than negatives to take from his time at the club so far.
The England international hasn’t always been a regular in the starting lineup for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but of late he has received some playing time in his preferred central midfield position, while he is playing with increased confidence.
A superb goal in the 5-0 thrashing of Swansea City on Boxing Day provided another reminder of the quality that Oxlade-Chamberlain possesses, but it is also clear that he still has some way to go in order to fulfil the vast potential that he possesses.
Prior to finding the net against Swansea, Oxlade-Chamberlain had been rather underwhelming in the second half as he frequently lost possession and struggled to make much of an overall impact on proceedings.
There is so much to admire about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s game, given his pace, power and technique, but his lack of consistency and tendency to make avoidable errors remains rather concerning.
It is evident, though, that Oxlade-Chamberlain is, albeit slowly, starting to improve under Klopp as he is becoming more tactically aware and is, for the most part, using the ball better.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will hope to continue to impress in the second half of the season as he seeks to prove that he made the correct decision in leaving Arsenal.
