Antonio Martinez has joined Oxford United on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season.

West Ham United forward Antonio Martinez has won the praise of Oxford United fans, after scoring on his debut for the League One side.

Martinez joined Oxford on loan until the end of the season earlier this week, and was immediately brought into Michael Appleton’s side’s first-team squad for their match against Newcastle United.

The Spanish striker came off the substitutes’ bench, and put the gloss on the scoreline, as Oxford pulled off a cup upset.

The U’s won 3-0 against Championship outfit Newcastle to move into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

And Martinez’s display has seen him take widespread praise from Oxford fans, who are excited about the impact he could make at the Kassam Stadium.

Many West Ham fans were shocked that Slaven Bilic agreed to loan Martinez to Oxford.

The youngster has scored prolifically for West Ham’s development side this season, but has not been given a first-team chance.

Martinez is one of a number of West Ham youngsters out on loan, with Martin Samuelsen and Josh Cullen also playing for League One clubs until the end of the season.
