Tottenham Hotspur have seen a number of youth players emerge into the first team in recent times, but some aren’t so fortunate.
Harry Kane is of course the big name who fits that bill, emerging as a global star. Harry Winks is a regular starter too, whilst Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga are emerging.
Not all young players can make it with Tottenham though, and one player has left the club in search of a path to first-team football elsewhere.
Oxford United confirmed on Wednesday that they have signed Ben Watt from Tottenham, with the 16-year-old leaving Spurs this summer.
The teenager is predominantly a right back, which is a troublesome area for Spurs, but he has been let go by Tottenham.
Oxford have swooped in to sign him, announcing him as part of their new scholar intake. Watt has already featured for Oxford in an Under-18 game against Bournemouth.
The League One side describe him as being ‘explosive’, branding him a ‘modern day full back’ and a ‘composed, ball-playing full back’.
Watt spent 10 years with Spurs, joining them partly because his mother supports them. His Tottenham dream has ended, but he now has a chance to settle down with Oxford and potentially prove Spurs wrong for letting him go.
