The Oxford United manager, Karl Robinson, has reiterated the club’s desire to sign their former West Ham United loan star, Marcus Browne.

Browne scored or made 14 goals for United during his season-long spell from West Ham, which ended in May.

And the Hammers attacking midfielder was curiously spotted back at the Kassam Stadium for Tuesday night’s friendly against Fulham.

Asked about the possibility of Browne’s return afterwards, Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “I’d love him, there’s no getting away from the fact that if he’s available, we’ll pay money for him.

“The chairman has openly said to me ‘whatever it costs, we’ll buy him’.

“But if Marcus Browne was available, we won’t be the only club in for him.

“I think he really felt at home here and I think the fans have a big influence on what he wants to do.”

Browne recently entered the final year of his contract at West Ham, where his positional rivals include the costly Hammers recruits, Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals.

The 21-year-old has made just one competitive appearance for the West Ham first team – a 15-minute cameo in a Europa League qualifying tie against Astra Giurgiu in 2016.

And it is not unlikely that he will fly the London Stadium nest before the transfer deadline, which runs until September 2 for English third and fourth tier sides.
