Michael Owen has claimed that the ‘brilliant’ Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus would be talked about ‘so much more’ if Erling Haaland hadn’t joined the Premier League.

Manchester City’s new star is the talk of the Premier League town because he has a remarkable 11 goals from his opening seven league games, but Owen feels Jesus also deserves a mention.

Ironically enough, it was Haaland moving to the Etihad from Dortmund that opened the door for Jesus to exit and re-unite with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

Whilst Haaland has taken an already-dominant Pep Guardiola side up a few levels, Arsenal’s very own summer signing has done the same in north London.

Over the weekend, he scored his fourth goal in Arsenal colours when they beat Brentford 3-0 – added with his goals, he also has three assists to his name.

And former England striker Owen was sure to big up the Brazil star because he has been one of the stories of the season so far, as he told Premier League Productions.

“Imagine if Erling Haaland hadn’t been signed this season,” said Owen.

“We would be talking so much about this guy because he has been brilliant since he came to Arsenal and scoring plenty of goals.”

BIGGER TESTS TO COME FOR JESUS

The versatile forward is already becoming a firm fan favourite with his new supporters and it will go up a few levels if he scores the winner in the north London derby after the international break.

Arsenal brought him in for the big moments and to deliver during moments, something which this young side couldn’t do last season.

That will come during the crunch moments of the campaign when they are battling for those Champions League places.

Their very strong start – and sitting top of the Premier League table after seven games helps – but bigger and tougher tests are to come.
