Owen Hargreaves has told BT Sport’s Europa League Highlights Show that Rangers star Aaron Ramsey produced his best performance since joining the Gers on loan from Juventus, as Rangers beat Braga 3-1 after extra-time.
Ramsey, 31, was handed just his sixth start by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the win over Braga. The 72-time Wales international looks fit again, and with every performance he is getting better and better.
While the ex-Arsenal man did not score or lay on an assist – missing a glorious chance to put Rangers 3-0 up with Braga yet to score through David Carmo – he was excellent. Braga could not pick him up.
His movement and intelligence allowed him to drift and create chances for the Gers – and Hargreaves was full of praise of the Rangers star. He claimed that Ramsey produced his best performance since moving to Glasgow.
“There were so many great performances. Kemar Roofe deserved his goal, Aaron Ramsey had his best performance in a Rangers shirt and Joe Aribo was absolutely terrific, got a couple of assists,” Hargreaves said on BT Sport.
Hargreaves on Ramsey: Does Rangers star start against Celtic?
Van Bronckhorst took Ramsey off after 80 minutes, before Braga took the game to extra time. It means that actually, while Ramsey has been lacking the fitness compared to his teammates, he might be less tired on Sunday.
Ryan Kent lasted the entire 120 minutes, as did John Lundstram. Joe Aribo played almost 30 more minutes than Ramsey, coming off on 106 minutes along with Roofe. So, he could start given he played just 80 minutes.
