Owen Hargreaves told BT Sport’s Europa League show that Rangers ace James Tavernier is a “joy to watch”, after his brace against Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox. Rangers knocked Dortmund out of the Europa League.
Tavernier, 30, took his goal tally to a simply stunning 75 goals – despite the ex-Newcastle man being a defender. The Rangers skipper got a brace on Thursday night against Dortmund, as the two sides drew 2-2 at Ibrox.
Scoring a penalty, the uncapped England man then lashed home an equaliser after a brilliant bit of work from Calvin Bassey down the left flank. It sees Rangers progress past Dortmund, into the last 16.
Hargreaves was asked about the Rangers skipper on BT Sport after the historic win – and he said Tavernier is a “joy to watch”. He also said that when he watches Tavernier and Rangers, he is always one of the best.
“He’s unbelievable. Free-kicks, penalties, corners; he is magnificent, calm as you like. His leadership is so important. When you watch him, he is always one of the best players on the pitch. He’s a joy to watch,” Tavernier said.
Hargreaves on Tavernier: Is Rangers man now set for Ibrox stay?
A season or two ago, there was plenty of talk about Tavernier leaving Rangers and joining a team down south. But now at 30, and with a contract until June 2024, Tavernier looks set to remain at Rangers for the forseeable.
The chances of a Premier League club signing Tavernier is very unlikely – now, he has entered his thirties. So, with 327 games at Rangers already under his belt, could he remain at Ibrox for the rest of his career?
With nights like these, it is looking more than likely – and Rangers will be desperate Tavernier does indeed, remain, going off his Thursday outing.
