Owen Hargreaves has praised Giovani Lo Celso for the impact he has had on Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.

A player signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, months into Giovani Lo Celso’s loan spell at the club, Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

That didn’t help the midfielder’s situation, especially when he signed permanently because he struggled to cement a regular place in the team.

That included Antonio Conte hardly using the player during his time at Spurs and being happy for Giovani Lo Celso to spend 18 months at Villarreal.

Despite all of that, Owen Hargreaves raved about the 27-year-old and how he is an ‘Ange Postecoglou player’ because he is a ‘ball player’, as he told Premier League Productions (03/12/23 at 7:15 pm).

Tottenham’s recent injuries and suspensions in the middle of the park have opened the door for the Argentine because he is now starting games.

And he has backed that up by scoring in back-to-back matches, with the 3-3 draw at Manchester City being pretty impressive.

Giovani Lo Celso’s performances under Ange Postecoglou

“Lo Celso’s a good player,” said Hargreaves. “He’s an Ange player because he is a ball player. A number ten. He can play wide, but he is more of a number ten.

“He has a fantastic left foot. If you give players like this space and time, then they are going to punish you (goal against Manchester City).

“They are really good football players and I think that’s what Ange wants to see. Be positive. Get the ball down and play. You don’t have to be 80 yards deeper like they were under Mourinho or Conte.”

Giovani Lo Celso deserves Tottenham chance

It needs to be noted that the midfielder won the Europa League under Unai Emery at Villareal, so he showcased he has it in his locker.

It wasn’t a surprise to hear that Emery wanted him at Aston Villa in the summer, but Postecoglou made the right call to keep him on board.

Now, he is deserving of his place in the XI, and even if certain injured stars return, he should keep his own spot.

This is also a chance for Postecoglou to continue to showcase his worth and how he is improving players at the club.
