Can Tottenham Hotspur challenge for the Premier League title this season?

Former Manchester United and Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves has told PremierLeague.com that Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a Gareth Bale-type figure in order to win the Premier League title this season.

Hargreaves, who now works as a pundit for BT Sport, has admitted his surprise that Tottenham have not made any signing so far in the summer transfer window.

The North London outfit have also lost England international right-back Kyle Walker to Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer.

The former Bayern Munich star believes that for Tottenham to win the league title this season, they need someone like Bale.

The Wales international winger is one of the best players in the world and was on the books of the North London outfit from 2007 until 2013 before making the move to Spanish and European giants Real Madrid.

Hargreaves has also backed Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to win the Premier League title this season.

“Manchester City have the best team on paper – it took a bit of an adjustment for Pep Guardiola but City are my favourites,” Hargreaves told PremierLeague.com.

“From there down anything is possible. Chelsea were by far the best team in the League last season and I’m surprised Tottenham Hotspur haven’t done more business.

“They’re that close to being able to push for the title but they probably need that Gareth Bale type figure to carry them.”

Tottenham finished second in the Premier League table last season and ended up third in the standings during the 2015-16 campaign.
