Owen Hargreaves suggests that Celtic should look at Tony Pulis’s West Bromwich Albion regarding defending set-pieces.

Celtic's head coach Brendan Rodgers talks during a press conference in Brussels on September 26, 2017 on the eve of the Champions League group B) football match against RSC Anderlecht.

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves suggested on BT Sport/ESPN on Wednesday night (9:51pm, October 18, 2017) during the post-match coverage of the Champions League match between Bayern and Celtic that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should look at West Bromwich Albion.

Hargreaves was not impressed with the way Celtic defended against Bayern Munich away from home at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers’s side went down 3-0 to the Bavarian giants and could have conceded two or three more goals.

Former England international and Bayern midfielder Hargreaves suggested that Celtic should look at West Brom on how to defend from set-pieces.

“Set pieces are about being aggressive,” said Hargreaves on on BT Sport/ESPN on Wednesday night (9:51pm, October 18, 2017) during the post-match coverage of the Champions League match between Bayern and Celtic.

“I think if you want to give yourself a chance, you look at West Brom and Tony Pulis, he gives himself a chance in very game because they do the little things well, and Celtic didn’t do the little things well.”

WBA manager Tony Pulis reacts during the Premier League match between Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion at Liberty Stadium on May 21, 2017 in Swansea, Wales.

Hargreaves is right – Celtic could have done better from set pieces against Bayern and could have been better overall defensively.

West Brom under Tony Pulis are brilliant at defending set-pieces, and that is a reason why they have established themselves in the Premier League.

However, even the Baggies would have struggled against a Bayern side in full throttle.
