Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold just gets ‘all the criticism’, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (09/10/22 at 9:50 pm).

The former England midfielder urged Jurgen Klopp to fix one Liverpool problem ‘very quickly’ and that’s stopping his side from conceding early goals.

That happened within the first minute on Sunday when Gabriel Martinelli finished off a brilliant move to open the scoring for Arsenal.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp watched his players score two goals away from home, once again, they let in three at the other end, even though Bukayo Saka’s game-winning penalty divided opinion.

Alexander-Arnold started the weekend game, before going off injured, but once again, his performances were being questioned.

Whilst the England right-back should take responsibility for producing below-average performances this term, Hargreaves thinks all the stick is seemingly going towards his way only.

“Jurgen Klopp, one thing he has to fix very quickly is conceding early goals,” said Hargreaves.

“There are just fine margins – I know Trent (Alexander-Arnold) gets all the criticism. But everybody is responsible for that. I think he wants to play differently because he played another attacker, which is fine.

“You think about all the goals they are conceding. The soft goals. You are one down, you are two down, it’s all adding up and they are doing it pretty much every matchday.”

TRENT OUT OF ACTION

Well, that defeat at Arsenal has seemingly resulted in Alexander-Arnold facing a number of weeks on the sidelines.

In normal circumstances, you would probably say it’s not ideal for the player, but in this case, it’s probably a blessing in disguise.

Being out of the team for a number of weeks might just help rediscover some of his magic out on the field because even his attacking play has declined this season.

The reason behind that is his defensive issues affecting his play going forward, but this without a doubt is the toughest test of his career to date.
