Former England international Owen Hargreaves has questioned recent rumours that Bayern Munich want to sign Harry Kane, with the German giants reportedly eyeing the Tottenham striker in 2023.

Speaking to German publication RAN, the BT Sport pundit was puzzled by new reports that Bayern are keen on Kane, with the reigning Bundesliga champions reportedly making the England captain their main priority for 2023 and their number one target to replace Robert Lewandowski.

With a reported wage of £200,000-a-week, Bayern will have to present quite the financial package if they’re to convince both Tottenham to let Kane leave north London and the player himself to depart his boyhood club at the peak of his career.

Indeed, a move seems quite unlikely at this point despite a lack of movement on Kane signing a new contract, and for Hargreaves, the former Bayern superstar can’t imagine the England captain leaving Tottenham to join the German side despite the trophies the forward could win.

Hargreaves said when asked about Bayern’s interest in Kane: “I’m not a big fan of rumours. But surely every team in Europe would love to have a Harry Kane on their team. However, I think he’s already signed to a top club at Tottenham Hotspur and with Antonio Conte as well. He still has a really good coach,.”

The TV pundit added: “I also think he wants to break all the records in the Premier League, and he has every opportunity to do so. However, it’s obviously the job of a top club like Bayern to ask about Kane. But he belongs to Tottenham and I find it hard to imagine him not playing in London next year.”

Kane leaving Tottenham was one of the biggest stories last summer, and 12 months later, the striker departing for Bayern could be the latest saga involving the Spurs superstar, yet unlike last year, there is a chance the forward could make the move depending on what happens this season.

After all, a lack of silverware yet again this campaign could be the nail in the coffin for Kane to leave Tottenham and to take his talents elsewhere, and this is what Bayern will be hoping for if they’re to land the 29-year-old striker in 2023.
