Owen Coyle has admitted that he would be ‘surprised’ if Mauricio Pochettio didn’t have ‘an input’ in Tottenham’s transfers after he recently expressed his frustration on the matter.

The much-liked Tottenham boss spoke in third person by saying that ‘always the club sign players, not Mauricio’, as quoted by the Telegraph.

It has been some while that Tottenham have been in this position. The simple reason being they have had no drama to deal with because they didn’t sign any players during the previous two transfer windows.

Now that Spurs are spending, and Pochettino is showing his frustrations, former Premier League manager Coyle told BBC Radio 5 Live that Spurs should allow him to have a much bigger say in the transfer market.

“I would think when they sit and have the meetings Mauricio stresses that ‘this is the positions I am after’,” Coyle told BBC Radio 5 Live. “And then it is the director of football’s job to find the right quality of player.

“But I would be surprised if he didn’t have any input into that. He’s such a wonderful manager and he gets the best out of players. I think if he’s able to say ‘this is the type of player I want’ and then identify two or three players and ‘can you get me one of those? because that’ll help enhance Tottenham.”

Tottenham have secured the permanent signatures of two key players this summer, with the main capture being midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

In terms of outgoings, right-back Kieran Trippier was the high-profile departure, as to the surprise of some, he decided to join La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

The summer transfer window shuts on August 8, and it remains to be seen how much more business Tottenham will do as they prepare to take the next step in their chapter.
