Ian Rush has praised Liverpool prospect Owen Beck on Twitter.

As announced on Liverpool’s official website today, Beck has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.

The youngster signed his first professional contract last summer.

The Liverpool Echo are reporting that it is a five-year deal.

Beck is the nephew of Liverpool legend Rush, who has expressed his pride at the young left-back getting a new contract.

One for the future

Beck is only 18 and is clearly one for the future.

Andy Robertson is the first-choice left-back at Liverpool, and that is not going to change anytime soon.

Beck is with the Liverpool first-team squad at the moment, training in Austria.

Manager Jurgen Klopp and his players are in pre-season training in Austria, and the left-back is with them.

The youngster is very good defensively and is also brilliant going on the attack.

Training with the Liverpool first team now and then playing for the youth side when the season starts will help Beck in his development and progress as a footballer.

Perhaps Beck could go out on loan next summer, and in two years’ time, could push for a place in the first team.
