Ovie Ejaria has revealed to The Sunderland Echo that he spoke to Ben Woodburn before joining Sunderland on loan from Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Ejaria moved to Championship club Sunderland on loan from Premier League side Liverpool.
The 20-year-old midfielder has revealed that he sought the advice of Woodburn prior to the decision to make the switch.
The 18-year-old Liverpool forward, who earns £12,000 per week according to Spotrac.com, worked with Sunderland manager Chris Coleman when the latter was in charge of the Wales national football team.
Ejaria told The Sunderland Echo: “I spoke to (Wales international and Liverpool club-mate) Ben Woodburn a little bit.
“Obviously I saw what Chris Coleman had done with him at Wales. That made it clear that he is willing to give young players an opportunity
“There were other lads as well that were getting chances for Wales – that was a big factor.”
Loan spell not going well
Ejaria is a very talented and promising young midfielder, but the 20-year-old’s loan spell at Sunderland is not exactly going great.
The Liverpool-owned youngster has been able to make only five appearances in the Championship for the Black Cats, playing a total of just 443 minutes in the league, according to WhoScored.
Sunderland are struggling for survival in the Championship at the moment and are in real danger of getting relegated to League One at the end of the season.
