Aston Villa fans want Tyrone Mings to be their new captain as Jack Grealish edges closer to joining Manchester City.
The boyhood Villa fan was initially handed the captaincy by Dean Smith during their promotion season from the Championship.
But now that Grealish has decided he wants to move on ahead of a £100 million switch to Manchester City, it makes the captaincy role available for someone to take within the squad.
Grealish was the type of captain that would do his talking with his performances and stepping up in pressure situations.
Whereas Mings was always seen as the vocal one out on that pitch and Villa supporters think it’s fitting that he should now take over his departing teammate.
A towering centre-back, Mings can always be seen and heard orchestrating and leading Villa from the back even though he didn’t have the armband on.
And whilst no decison has been made on who will lead Villa next season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Smith chooses Mings.
He does have other options. Emiliano Martinez is vocal in between the sticks, whilst John McGinn is very popular with the supporters and Ezri Konsa is a rising star that could also be handed that role.
But Villa fans want only one man as their new leader:
