Speaking on the Official England Podcast, Tony Adams has claimed that Tyrone Mings should have played more football at Euro 2020 for England.

The defender started the Three Lions’ first two games, keeping back to back clean sheets against Croatia and Scotland, but Harry Maguire’s return from injury left him out in the cold for the knockout games.

Adams was very impressed by what he’d seen from Mings, claiming that he didn’t get enough minutes for England.

What’s been said?

Adams gave Mings a lot of credit for his performances at this tournament.

“I’m reluctant to talk about just one player, because they’ve all been brilliant. Saka as had a wonderful tournament, but even someone like Tyrone Mings, central defender, came in and started two games at the start of the tournament, people can’t remember that far back, but he was outstanding when he came in, and he didn’t get enough minutes for me,” Adams said.

Hard call

Should Mings have played more for England at the Euros?

Well, it’s very hard to say.

The defender did a stellar job in those first two games, but Harry Maguire was arguably England’s best player when he came into that defence.

Maguire and Stones formed a formidable partnership at the back, and even with hindsight it’s hard to argue that Gareth Southgate mismanaged the defence.

Mings played his part brilliantly, but Stones and Maguire were both exceptional as well.
