Reported West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Andre Silva is closing in on an Eintracht Frankfurt record after hitting his 18th Bundesliga goal of the season, as reported by Kicker.

In 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo was asked whether the Portuguese national team could survive when the most prolific international goalscorer in European history hangs up his boots.

In the eyes of Juventus’ evergreen talisman, the answer was an unequivocal “yes”.

“When I retire, Portugal will be in good hands because they have already found a great striker – Andre Silva,” Ronaldo told Gazzetta dello Sport, via Goal.

It’s only now, however, four years on, that Silva is starting to perform like a striker capable of stepping into Ronaldo’s shoes.

After disappointing spells at AC Milan and Sevilla, the former Porto wonderkid is finally making good on his vast potential at Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena.

Amid reported interest from West Ham (Daily Mail), Silva has scored nine times in his last seven games, taking his tally to 18.

No player has scored more than 26 goals for Frankfurt in a Bundesliga campaign – a record set by the legendary Bernd Holzenbein in 1976/77. But if Silva maintains his current run, a place in the history books will soon belong to him.

“Andre works well for the team, that’s the basic requirement. That’s why he deserves the goals, they inevitably come,” says sporting director and former Germany international Fredi Bobic.

“He has outstanding technique and is ice cold (in the penalty area).”

According to BILD, La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid are also watching Silva closer, as are a Wolves side who have been linked since his Milan days. The Portuguese number nine, as you might imagine, is represented by a certain Jorge Mendes.

Frankfurt want more than £26 million for their star man. But could he leave Germany a record-breaker?
