Some West Ham fans on social media have been reacting to Emmanuel Longelo’s performance against Dinamo Zagreb.
How did Longelo get on?
Longelo was one of a number of young players called into the starting XI for West Ham’s final Europa League group game.
With the Hammers’ qualification to the knockout stages already secured, David Moyes decided to rotate heavily for this one.
You could argue that his decision to rotate backfired. After all, the Hammers were beaten 1-0 on Thursday, but when you’re fielding so many young players, performances often matter more than results.
Longelo was excellent against Zagreb. He took to senior football like a duck to water and he didn’t look overawed by the occasion in the slightest.
Future star
At the age of just 20, Longelo has a lot of room to grow and develop, and based on Thursday’s performance he could be a star of the future.
We’ve seen West Ham bring through a number of talented academy prospects in recent years such as Declan Rice and Ben Johnson, and we shouldn’t be too surprised if Longelo is the next young player to establish himself as a star.
