Steven Gerrard has called on Steven Davis to give one more season to Rangers.

The Northern Ireland international is only contracted to the Gers until this summer and, at 36, the midfielder might feel tempted to hang up his boots.

But Davis ran the show in Rangers’ 1-0 win over Kilmarnock this afternoon.

And Gerrard, speaking to The Scottish Sun, is desperate to convince the legend to stick around for another year.

He said: “He is vital to the team, a real big player for us. His consistency levels have been outstanding. I hope when I sit down and have the one to one with him that he is still as enthusiastic to carry on beyond the end of the season.

“I still think he has loads to offer. We are lucky to have him and he was outstanding again today.”

Despite his advancing years, Davis has still played in 26 of the light Blues’ 29 league games this season as Gerrard’s side close in on the title.

After this afternoon’s win, Rangers are just four more wins from guaranteeing that the title comes back to Ibrox.

If and when they do it, it’ll be the club’s first league title in a decade and defending it might be a lot easier if a player of Davis’s class and experience does indeed sign a new deal.
