After weeks and months of speculation, James Tarkowski has now been officially released by Burnley after the Clarets released their retained list.
The centre-back’s contract is up in the coming weeks, and it had long been expected that he would be departing Turf Moor at the end of the season.
With Burnley’s relegation to the Championship confirmed, it seemed as though it was just a matter of time before Tarkowski was moved on, and now, he’s finally departed.
Tarkowski was a fantastic servant for Burnley. He helped the Lancashire club remain in the Premier League for years, and his partnership alongside Ben Mee was one of the sturdiest in England over this period.
So, what’s next for the ‘outstanding‘ defender?
Well, the centre-back is largely expected to join Everton after it was reported earlier this week that he’d undergone a medical ahead of a move to Goodison Park.
However, there are other clubs that are keen on the 29-year-old, including Newcastle United.
An Everton medical would suggest that he’s on his way to Merseyside, but, as we should all know by now, nothing is done in football until a contract is signed and an announcement is made.
One thing is for sure though, Tarkowski won’t be playing for Burnley next season, and it looks like he will secure himself an instant return to playing in the Premier League with the Toffees.
