Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks James Maddison was “outstanding” for his old side over the weekend.

James Maddison managed to get his name on the scoresheet in Tottenham‘s 5-2 win against Burnley at Turf Moor, and his performances in a Spurs shirt are not going unnoticed.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (05/09/2023 at 10:24am), Robinson said: “It was always going to be difficult when Harry Kane left, but the players that he’s brought in… James Maddison, for example, was outstanding again at the weekend.”

The attacking midfielder’s strike means he has now been directly involved in four goals in as many Premier League appearances this season, making it an impressive start to life in north London.

Things are going well for Ange Postecoglou’s men overall. They currently find themselves sitting second in the table, just two points behind champions Manchester City.

James Maddison has not been Tottenham’s only good signing

Maddison is getting a lot of praise right now. Former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino thinks he has been “absolutely superb” since joining Tottenham from Leicester City during the summer transfer window.

However, the 26-year-old is not the only Spurs signing who has impressed. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has not been too bad either.

According to FBref, the Italian has made 15 saves in the Premier League this term, leaving him just outside of the top five shot-stoppers for that category.

Tottenham have conceded two goals against Brentford and two against Burnley, so Vicario and the rest of the team’s backline can improve.

Nevertheless, from what Vicario has shown so far, the early signs are promising, and the same obviously goes for Maddison, who has not needed any time at all to settle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
