Michael Owen praised David Raya for his performance in between the sticks as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the north London derby at the Emirates.
Usually, you want your goalkeepers to be quiet, with not much spotlight on them and for them to be hardly heard because that way you know they are doing a good job.
But not for David Raya who, before a ball was being kicked, was in the media spotlight because of Mikel Arteta’s call to drop Aaron Ramsdale between Arsenal’s stick last week.
Well, the on-loan Brentford keeper was in the thick of the action straightaway against Spurs, with Michael Owen claiming that he had a ‘brilliant’ game, as he told Premier League Productions (24/09/23 at 2:55 pm).
In the first-half, David Raya pulled off an outstanding point-blank save to deny Brennan Johnson an ample chance to score, with Aaron Ramsdale applauding from the bench.
That were a number of very good moments that the Spanish star had during the game, as the two teams played out a typically entertaining north London derby.

“He has had a brilliant game, to be fair, Raya,” said Owen. “He has made some outstanding saves – that was a fabulous save (from Johnson). As I said, he made a few good saves already.”

David Raya is Arsenal’s new number one
It’s pretty clear now that Mikel Arteta is going to push with his summer signing as his new number one.
A number of years ago, when Ramsdale entered the building, he pushed out Bernd Leno, who at the time, didn’t do much wrong.
But that’s the ruthless nature of football, as Ramsdale has now felt both ends of the scale.
