Ryan Mason has told BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has impressed him with his fitness levels.
Alli was handed a rare start on Sunday evening for Tottenham, and he showed just how much ability he had in a 4-0 win over Sheffield United.
Alli may not have got on the scoresheet, but the Spurs playmaker still had a big impact on the game.
Alli linked the play well in the final third, and generally looked like a dangerous outlet throughout the contest.
It was a reminder of the Tottenham man’s quality, and Mason was pleased with just how long Alli was able to last, despite his lack of game time.
“He had an excellent training week,” Mason said. “I have to reward that. I think the players felt it as well. He had that edge that we all want to see.
“I think tonight, considering he hasn’t started a Premier League game for some time, his fitness levels and attitude were outstanding and he helped the team.”
Alli’s performance really did leave question marks over why he has been so badly ostracised this term.

Jose Mourinho completely overlooked the England international, which seemed detrimental to Tottenham’s chances.
At his best Alli is still one of the most talented players in Tottenham’s squad, and his display on Sunday will surely earn him more regular football now.
Spurs are next in action on Saturday, when Alli’s fitness levels will certainly be tested if he starts again by a relentless Leeds United side.
