Martin Keown has heaped praise on Craig Dawson following West Ham’s 2-1 win over West Brom on Tuesday evening.

The on-loan Watford centre-back made his fifth start under David Moyes last night, and proceeded to deliver another fantastic display.

Dawson – who Watford paid £5.5 million for – was being watched by Keown against the Baggies, as he was on commentary duty for BT Sport (Tuesday, January 19th, 18:02).

The former Arsenal defender said: “Outstanding business. They wanted Tarkowski who would have cost them £30 million and can now sign Dawson for a couple of million. He’s been outstanding.”

In truth, the 30-year-old really has exceeded expectations since arriving at the London Stadium.

Dawson has made now made four Premier League starts – and also one FA Cup start – with West Ham winning all but one of those five games.

The one outing they weren’t successful in – the 0-0 draw against Southampton – at least didn’t end in defeat.

Last night, against his former club, Dawson was superb yet again.

As WhoScored shows, West Ham’s No.15 made three clearances and one interception.

Impressively, he also completed four of his attempted seven long-range passes, registering a pass success rate of 89.8% in total.

Dawson even managed to have a shot, although it was not on target.

At this rate, we presume the Irons can’t wait to turn his loan move into a permanent transfer – he’s made a stunning first impression.
