The senior Liverpool side had a disappointing afternoon, as they failed to score or win against Everton in the Merseyside derby, but the Under-21 team did well against their Manchester United counterparts, with midfielder Jake Cain praised for his performance.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Liverpool Under-21 side were also in action this afternoon.

They took on the Manchester United Under-21 team.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Jake Cain praised for Liverpool Under-21 v Manchester United Under-21

Merseyside-based journalist Andy Kelly was following the match, and he has praised 20-year-old midfielder Cain for his performance for the Liverpool Under-21 side.

Kelly, who covers the Liverpool FC Academy and Liverpool FC Women, has written on Twitter that Cain was “outstanding” in the Premier League 2 match this afternoon.

The youngster scored the first goal and played well.

Liverpool have injury problems in midfield at the moment, and although they have signed Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, Klopp could be tempted to look at the academy for options in the coming weeks and months.

Cain, who spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Newport County, could make himself an appealing prospect if he continues to do well for the Under-21 side.
