Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Caoimhin Kelleher’s display for his side last night against Bighton & Hove Albion on the club’s official website.

Liverpool were toppled by Brighton last night, in what was one of the shock results of the evening.

The Reds failed to really get going in the contest, with very few of their players coming out of the game with any credit.

But Klopp did feel that Kelleher deserved praise for the way he performed between the sticks.

“They had a few counter-attacks when we tried really hard, that’s when Caoimhin was outstanding and kept us in the game,” Klopp said.

Kelleher may have been expecting a quiet game when he stepped in for Allisson, who missed out with illness.

But that wasn’t to be the case, as he was thoroughly tested.

Kelleher did indeed produce when called upon, and he had absolutely no chance with Brighton’s goal.

Kelleher’s showing only increases the faith that Liverpool must have in him as understudy to Alisson, as he is yet to really put a foot wrong when called upon.

The Reds’ defeat last night means that they are now sat seven points behind league leaders Manchester City, and are fighting to hold on to their spot in the top four.
