Jonathan Woodgate has posted on Instagram that James Milner has had an ‘outstanding career’ after he posted about his debut for Leeds.
The Liverpool player posted that it has been 22 years to the day (on Wednesday) since he made his debut as a young fresh-faced teenager.
Woodgate, who donned the same colours as Milner in Yorkshire, simply posted in the comments section: ‘Outstanding career’.
Whilst Celtic goalkeeper, Joe Hart, who played with Milner for England and Man City, wrote: ‘What a man’.
It has been some career for Milner and one that should have the word ‘underrated’ plastered all over it.
One thing is for sure, he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for winning it all on the domestic stage.
From the FA Cup in Manchester City colours to European glory with Liverpool, Milner has it all on his glittering and quite illustrious career.
What also needs to be remembered is the size of clubs he has played for and the high expectations that have always used to be on his shoulders.
From starting off as a young pup at Leeds when they were challenging for Europe to signing for Newcastle, who just came out of a period where they were pushing for the Premier League title.
Then it was some of the best years of his career in the colours of Claret and Blue.
At Aston Villa, Milner was a goalscoring machine and helped the club to several European finishes, before winning the big ones at the Etihad and at Anfield.
And in truth, more could come. But will that return to Leeds ever happen because it is the dream of the Elland Road faithful?
